Joy, on the other hand, is a deliberate decision. Happiness does not produce pleasure, and joy is not produced by happiness. Even in the midst of adversity, it is possible to find joy. Joy is an attitude - something that can be chosen.
Joy is more consistent and is internally cultivated. It occurs when you come to terms with who you are, why you are, and how you are, as opposed to happiness, which is externally triggered and based on other people, things, places, ideas, and events. Joy is a positive attitude that allows you to face life cheerfully; it is not dependent on circumstances.
Happiness is an emotional state arising from the experience of pleasure or happiness derived from external sources such as wealth, status, relationships, achievements, etc. ; while joy is an emotional state arising from the experience of pleasure or happiness derived from within oneself i.e., self-esteem, confidence, knowledge, spirituality, etc.
As Aristotle said: "Virtue is joyousness." True joy is not something that happens to you; it is an active choice every day. It is not just a feeling but a way of living your life, moving through the world with hope, faith, and enthusiasm.
According to psychologists, people differ in their capacity to feel joy. Some people may only feel joy at certain times in their lives, while others may feel it always. The same person may also be happy at different times. What makes someone able to feel joy even during difficult times is called "spiritual maturity". This means they have learned to connect with their inner source of joy no matter what happens around them.
This is due to the fact that happiness is an emotion in which we "experience sensations ranging from contentment and satisfaction to ecstasy and extreme pleasure," but "joy" is a stronger and less common feeling than "happiness." When we accomplish selflessness to the extent of personal sacrifice, we experience joy. When we help others, we experience joy. And when we discover something new about our world, we experience joy.
Happiness and joy are two different things. While happiness is an emotional state, joy is a feeling that can make us feel happy but it is also its own unique feeling.
People who know me well know that I cannot be completely happy for very long. I have always been like this. Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted more. I have always wanted to go farther, see more, do more. That is what has made me such a driven person throughout my life. Even now at age 38, I still want more. I want to learn more, experience more, achieve more.
But even with all my ambition, I find myself unable to stay happy for very long. I think that is why I have such good friends; they know how to make me laugh and give me joy from time to time.
Happiness is an emotional state. It is when we are happy that we feel joyful. But not every person who feels happy will also feel joyful.
Joy is a Spirit-given fruit, and when we find it, it is laced with comfort and enveloped in serenity. It is a heart and spirit attitude that is typically associated with, but not limited to, following Christ Jesus and living a Christian life. Happiness is a state of mind where as joy is an emotion that can make us happy or give us pleasure.
Jesus said, "I tell you, don't be anxious about your life; what matters is not whether you live but how you live. And now come I to you, joyful and glad of heart...But the man who loves God must keep his commandments." (Luke 12:22, 24-27).
He also told His disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; nor about your body, what you should wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away anything they have not gained. Nor do the bees work for nothing; yet even they enjoy life. So should you, since the day was made for you and the night for sleeping; and because you are worth more than many sparrows, therefore rejoice in every trial you suffer. For it makes your relationship with God stronger and Him more willing to help you." (vv. 22-26).
Because it connects with our basic identity, joy is the feeling that makes life worth living in the now. It is related with sentiments of comfort, gratitude, and significance. Joy can also be an emotional state resulting from certain thoughts and perceptions.
Finding methods to be joyful even when things don't go your way is what choosing joy entails. It's about developing strategies and techniques that help you stay focused on the positive aspects of life.
A person who chooses joy is not affected by circumstances. They find ways to be happy no matter what happens around them. They live their lives based on principles rather than reactions. They develop themselves mentally and spiritually, learn from past mistakes and keep moving forward.
Choosing joy doesn't mean that you have to deny yourself of the negative effects of life. You just try not to let them affect your mood or your ability to remain positive.
People can differ in how they deal with life's challenges. Some may be able to stay positive despite failing tests, while others may feel depressed when receiving bad news. The choice to remain or become jaded is up to each individual.
However, there are ways you can change this habit. If you realize that you're feeling down because something bad happened or someone acted negatively towards you, then choosing joy would mean focusing on the positive aspects of these events/people.
Joy is thrilling and invigorating, and it fills you with warmth. It helps you shine and provides you with the energy you require to achieve your aspirations and everything else. It differs from happiness in that it is quieter, more relaxing, and softer. Happiness is instant; joy takes time.
The Bible says joy for one another. It's not just an emotional response, but rather it involves the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. The Christian should strive to have a joyful heart at all times. That means being happy about everything in life - whether it be good or bad - and showing others by your actions how to react to difficulties.
Joy is the fuel that keeps us going even when things get tough. When we are joyous, we can face almost any challenge that comes our way. But when we are depressed, anxious, or angry, we become vulnerable to disease and destruction. Your body reacts negatively to stress, so if you aren't giving it something positive to react to, it will always give back something negative.
